As Far As Impossible

Written and directed by Tiago Rodrigues

Comédie de Genève
German premiere

Why do people risk their lives to help others? What drives people who visit the sites of catastrophes? In "As Far As Impossible", Tiago Rodrigues tells real stories of international aid workers from organizations like the Red Cross and Doctors Without Borders. Bearing witness to conflicts and natural disasters, these tales interweave disaster with the experiences of helpers, victims, and perpetrators. Rodrigues and his international ensemble create a captivating, moving, and sometimes unexpectedly humorous piece of documentary theater. The Portuguese director is one of the most important theater creators in Europe. Last year, he was appointed Artistic Director of the Festival d'Avignon.

By the means of an intimate, multilingual performance and penetrating live music by percussionist Gabriel Ferrandini, "As Far As Impossible" explores the dilemmas of those who oscillate between crisis areas and their own peaceful homes. This touching and stirring evening poses fundamental questions: How can we save the world? And can the world be saved at all?
