Julieta

World premiere
Gabriela Muñoz creates whimsical, intricate storyworlds that go straight to the heart. In 2019, the clown wowed Recklinghausen audiences with her show "Perhaps, Perhaps...Quizás." Now, Ruhrfestspiele present the world premiere of her latest work. "Julieta" is a story about aging and a tribute to Muñoz's own grandmother. The clown was inspired when performing in nursing homes, where she became aware of the poetry of the aging process. With her disarming wit, she now combats the stigma of aging and takes a satirical look at it. Her new show also takes a closer look at the youth craze – quite literally. "Julieta" explores the different phases of life and examines how our self-image is constantly changing throughout. To do so, Muñoz slips into her grandmother's slippers and creates a quirky and affectionate alter ego who prepares for a date with her favorite singer on TV or smooths out unwelcome wrinkles with Scotch tape. As her surroundings turn into a hall of mirrors of memories, our titular heroine finds new ways to adapt. She is viewed through various lenses that magnify, distort, and play with everything life throws at her. "Julieta" creates an immersive, idiosyncratic cosmos of rich imagery, imagination and attention to detail. This one-woman show is as rich and varied as life itself.
