"MANIFESTO" is the new creation of Australian choreographer Stephanie Lake and her company. Stephanie Lake was already here in 2022 with her work "Colossus," which thrilled the Ruhrfestspiel audience. Now she presents her new show, which is celebrated by the Australian press as an 'explosive, ecstatic phenomenon.' "MANIFESTO" features nine dancers and nine drummers in a symbiosis of raw sound and wild dance.
Historically, mass drumming and dance often evoke connotations of military traditions in Western cultures. In the "Military Tattoo," for example, large drum ensembles march in strictly choreographed formations on parade grounds. "Manifesto" turns this tradition on its head: here the rigidity of a formation is dissolved in favor of a pulsating collective. The percussive soundscapes and beats of the drummers unleash the dancers' energy. The exuberance and power of the rhythm holds both groups in thrall. In "MANIFESTO," a solidary community develops through dance and music. Witness this celebration of optimism and the life's joys.
The production already toured Australia with great success and will have its European premiere at the Ruhrfestspiele.
