Flo Kasearu – Flo’s Retrospective

Ruhrfestspiele art exhibition at the Kunsthalle Recklinghausen

Kunsthalle Recklinghausen proudly presents “Flo’s Retrospective,” the first German solo exhibition of Estonian artist Flo Kasearu (*1985). She is one of the most outstanding Baltic artists of her generation, whose works have already received numerous awards. Kasearu’s installations and interactive works condense socially urgent, politically relevant topics in a remarkable way. For Kunsthalle Recklinghausen, Kasearu will stage her own retrospective dedicated to global themes such as economic crises and nationalisms, as well as to exposing the absurdities of the art world and of patriarchal-hierarchical structures.
In her artistic practice, Kasearu explores, negotiates, and celebrates the relationship between seriousness and humor, rigor and wit. Her material is taken from everyday life; she unsparingly dissects what happens behind closed doors and brings those issues back into the open through her artistic practice. Kasearu’s house in Tallinn is perhaps her most comprehensive artwork, reflecting on Estonia's post-Soviet heritage and capitalist reality. Kasearu will display aspects, objects, and themes of her “House Museum” at Kunsthalle Recklinghausen. It will be accompanied by her latest project: the “Disorder Patrol.” This surveillance brigade dressed in absurd uniforms and equipped with gymnastic bands will ensure that visitors behave in a completely disorderly manner, both inside and outside the Kunsthalle and Ruhrfestspielhaus.
