“The Walk” is an international art project that transcends borders. Little Amal, a young refugee, embarks on a remarkable journey. She is one among thousands to take the perilous voyage across Turkey and Europe. Amal is also a 3.5 meter-tall puppet. In the creation of Amal, Good Chance Productions have collaborated with the acclaimed Handspring Puppet Company, the world-famous creators of “War Horse.” Little Amal, the heart and soul of Amir Nizar Zuabi’s production, will travel over 8,000km to represent all other displaced children, many of which are separated from their families.
At this time of unprecedented global change, “The Walk” is an extraordinary artistic response: a cultural odyssey transcending borders, politics, and language to tell a new story of shared humanity – and to ensure the world does not forget the millions of displaced children, each with their own story, who are more vulnerable than ever during the global pandemic. As a travelling festival of art and hope in support of refugees, the project will unite celebrated artists, major cultural institutions, community groups, and humanitarian organizations to create one of the most innovative and adventurous public artworks ever attempted. In the Arabic language, “Amal” means hope. Little Amal is a sign of courage that gives a face to the thousands of refugees whose voices are not heard.
