When WDR Funkhausorchester meets WDR Big Band, one of the finest big bands in the world, anything is possible. Accompanied by celebrated trumpet player Markus Stockhausen, these excellent musicians are set on a transcendental musical journey beyond genre boundaries and musical conventions. “Dancing Lights” pays homage to the artistic oeuvre of German painter Paul Klee. Rather than setting Klee’s images to sound, Stockhausen was inspired by a mental image of a thousand tiny rays of sunlight dancing on the surface of a lake. With this raw natural force in mind, the trumpeter collaborated with Wolf Kerschek und Torsten Maas to create a multifaceted musical composition that floats gracefully between classical and modern music, jazz and contemporary.
