Direction: Jan Bosse
Deutsches Theater Berlin and Bregenzer Festspiele
After reading countless romances of chivalry, an impoverished squire reinvents himself as Don Quijote de la Mancha. He defends his fellow citizens from all evil with the help of his faithful page Sancho Panza. Together, these two tragi-comical characters take a perilous journey to win Dulcinea of Toboso – only to fail spectacularly most of the time.
Jan Bosses’s staging of Cervantes’ radical classic celebrates human imagination as well as the dramatic craft. He is joined by the seasoned actors Ulrich Matthes and Wolfram Koch, who bring the fantastical “Knight of the Sad Countenance” and his trusty sidekick to life in this exuberant new adaptation.
„Two great actors in top form, funny and deeply sad, daring and tragic, who invent a whole world from nothing.“ Berliner Morgenpost
