Olaf Kröck

has been artistic director of the Ruhrfestspiele Recklinghausen since 1st of August 2018. Born in 1971 in Viersen, he studied Applied Cultural Studies and Aesthetic Practice at the University of Hildesheim, where he was also a research assistant at the Institute for Media and Theatre Studies and headed the international student exchange programme. In 2000 he took over the artistic direction of the 3rd European theatre festival transeuropa in Hildesheim and worked as dramaturge and director at the Stadttheater Hildesheim.

From 2001 to 2004 he was dramaturge and artistic director of the experimental stage "UG" at the Lucerne Theatre and from 2005 to 2010 dramaturge at Schauspiel Essen. During this time he directed the radio plays "Deadline" by Rimini Protokoll (2008) and "Flüchtlinge im Ruhestand" by Mirjam Strunk (Ursendung 2010 bei 1Live/WDR). In 2010 he moved to the Schauspielhaus Bochum as dramaturge, where he was chief dramaturge from 2013 to 2017. In 2013/2014, he was co-director of the international "Detroit Project". In the 2017/2018 season Olaf Kröck was artistic director of the Schauspielhaus Bochum. He has been a member of the German Academy of Performing Arts since 2019.
